  • 300 DC Guidelines and Code of Conduct

    Welcome to 300DC

300DC is a group where aesthetics, fitness, and costuming become one. Our purpose is to accurately recreate and represent the characters of the “300” films, through both screen-accurate physiques and costumes. Then, celebrate our achievements at DragonCon by marching as a group for a Friday night "Reveal" and participating in the Saturday DragonCon parade. While members attend other conventions, our largest gathering is Labor Day weekend in Atlanta.

    This Is Who We Are
We are workout enthusiasts who have a love of costuming and all things that nerd-dom represents. As a group we worship at the temple of iron and metal. We are a group who celebrates the journey and the process of creating aesthetic physiques, and fosters camaraderie through pushing ourselves physically and mentally to be bigger and better every single year. We are never satisfied. We are 300DC.

    This Is What We Do
We provide a community of like-minded individuals to share their progress and their fitness journey, and motivate each other through actions not words. Though all are welcome at 300DC, not all are ready to step into this arena. While we respect everyone at whatever stage of their fitness journey they may be, our group is perhaps not the best place to begin that journey. We are supportive, but we are not a support group. We are not here to be a source of motivation or accountability. We expect and respect self-discipline and personal accountability, and adding value not merely taking a share of the glory. Those who join should already be possessed of these traits. We are not trainers. While we love to share our approaches and our individual thoughts on fitness and nutrition, we do not provide training programs, nutrition plans, or any official programs/plans of any type, and none of our advice should be pursued without consulting a credentialed professional

    300DC Guidelines

    1. You are here because you want to be here. No one begged you to dress up half naked and parade around Labor Day weekend (or any other time).

    2. Have fun. This is a hobby, not a job. This is NOT an imagined power structure. It is first and foremost meant to bring us all together enjoying a mutual love for the intersection of fitness and this film/comic property of 300.

    3. You agree your role is providing value in exchange for the benefits of fun, camaraderie, and personal recognition gained by associating with a group of mutually inclined people.

    4. We are exclusive, by nature, we exclude. This does not mean we are not welcoming, but understand this may not be the best group for you if you disagree with the ideas of merit, camaraderie, and hard work.

    5. Your association with 300DC is voluntary and can be terminated anytime by you if you don’t like the group culture. We do not own the costume so you’re free to walk by yourself; but see #3. You’re getting a benefit, understand this is not free and none of us condone riding coattails. Those benefits come at the cost of your work and effort.

    6. Fuck your feelings. This is a candid group, and we focus on what is, not what we wish it to be.

    7. Be respectful of each other. However, by agreeing you are putting yourself “out here/there” for judgement in a voluntary association fashion, your responsibility is to accept honest criticism in the spirit it is offered.

    8. We all do not have to like one another. However, the understanding is, much like a military unit, you exchange that for the mutual benefit of this group and for the collective mission of gathering, recognition, and glory.

    9. Actions, words, language, and behavior - whether in person or online - by a member that can be construed as trashing, or representing the group in a negative light will be subject to suspension or removal.

    10. We do not tolerate attacks whether verbal or physical, and/or implied or real threats against any member. Flaming someone here is a very quick trip to “we suggest you find another pursuit” and membership termination. If you are warned, you will be asked to leave on future transgressions.

    11. Talk – action = zero. Respect, and condition, are earned and need to be renewed frequently. We care little as to the method, if the end result speaks for itself.

    300DC FAQ

Who are the administrators and moderators of 300DC and what is their role?

Administrators, or Admins for short are the people who facilitate the nuts and bolts of forum and group operation so you can all go back to aesthetics and 'mirin. We pay the site fees, coordinate when official things need to happen like the parade, and make sure the site works so you all can commune. Along with handing down decisions like Leonidas or forum culture enforcement in the case of any incidents, we're here to keep the lights on and provide the map we all follow.

Moderators assist in the day to day running and function of the group and DragonCon organization, and in certain cases provide specific guidance for the areas they oversee such as the Aegis and Adelfi.

The current 300DC administrators are Mike L., Jason. M., Mike B., and Chris S.
The current 300DC moderators are Aimee M. (Social Media Manager and Forum Moderator), Lauren F. (Current Queen/Battle Gorgo and Aegis Moderator), and Allison E. (Adelfi Leader and Moderator)

What are the physique expectations of 300DC?

As a member of 300DC, you should strive to bring a similar physical condition to DragonCon as the cast of the “300” movie franchise and of 300DC members in previous years. It is each member's personal responsibility to judge themselves and put in the work to achieve this goal. Photos of current 300DC members and photos from the 300 movies are posted below for reference.

Do I need to meet a certain standard physique to participate at DragonCon?

All members are eligible to march Friday during the hotel reveal and participate in any group activities around the hotels at Con. Depending on Group size, all members may not be allowed to March in the Saturday parade. Typically, we are allowed 50 parade bands from DragonCon. However, remember self-awareness. You may not be capable of judging yourself against the others you stand next to, but if you are lacking, be assured the public and crowd will.

How will the parade bands be distributed?

Composition of the parade group will be ultimately be decided by the admin team based on group composition and overall parade appearance. Bands will be provided in the following priority: male hoplites, Xerxes, screen-accurate side characters (gorgo's, persians, oracles etc), female hoplites, and significant others/non-members if any extra bands remain.

    How will Leonidas be selected?

The role of Leonidas will be selected by the admin team each year. Any male hoplite who has previously marched with the group will be in consideration. The admin team will announce the top contenders each year as we near Con, with the final decision being made by August 1st.
